Weekend Wrap-Up

My weekend plans are always much more ambitious than they turn out to be. On Friday, I have these visions of being a weekend warrior--a machine--that conquers deep cleaning, clutter and to-do lists. And on Sunday night I find myself looking back wondering where the time went.

I did get a few things knocked off my to-do list, however.
  • Embarrassingly, we took down our Christmas decorations. At least it isn't February yet.
  • I hung up a bunch of the baby's clothes in his closet.
  • A few loads of laundry were tackled.
  • I made a chicken in the crock pot today so that we can enjoy it for lunches this week.
  • Some vacuuming and dusting was accomplished.
  • I took a nap.
  • I bought groceries on Saturday.
Scott snowboarded both yesterday and today and I must admit, I feel a little jealous that my board is in storage for the season. It's for the good of the little one, though. Saturday night, we went out for Mexican food, so I did join the land of the living (and get out of sweat pants) at least once.

I'm not sure what the "nesting" instinct feels like, but I think I may be starting to feel it a bit. My mind is constantly going over the things I need to get done before baby arrives and I feel a strong pull toward cleaning and organizing.

This week I'm looking forward to lunch with girlfriends and to my doctor's appointment on Friday. Here's wishing you all a fabulous week!

Snow days

It may officially be Spring, but here in the Midwest, we're still getting snow.

Saturday night, Mr. Miller and I went out for supper with a friend and then couldn't help but take a few photos in the snow. After all, it won't be too long before we're ditching the coats and boots for sundresses and sandals. Well, me anyway.

Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was the kind I crave. Laid-back and fun.

Friday night, my cousin Kirbie and her hubby Dave were house guests as they were in town for a Marine ball (Dave's a Marine). They brought us the most beautiful bouquet of flowers. We all stayed up late talking and I loved having them at our home.

Saturday morning while Dave had drill, Kirbie and I hit a local thrift store and my personal favorite...the Dollar Tree. I love that store and it always makes the secret hoarder in me come out. Why yes, I needed a $1 bird warbler whistle.

After our guests left, we spent Saturday afternoon doing some yard work. I think we raked not only our leaves but those of at least two neighbors. Dang wind!

Saturday night we headed to a hip, vintage part of town to a restaurant we'd never tried called Espana. They only serve tapas. We met my friend Kari and her friend Paul. The food, sangria and company was perfection. I think we nearly closed the place down.
Saturday night outfit. Skinnies, boots, fur vest, crepe blouse, bubble necklace, layered bracelets.

No perfect weekend is complete without a Sunday Funday. I started the morning off with chocolate chip pancakes, coffee and the Sunday paper. Scott and I spent the rest of the day at the mall, where I found two super-cheap bargains at Old Navy.

Delish Panera Greek salad at the mall.

Orange sleeveless blouse from Old Navy | $3.97

When we got home, Scott hit the gym and I made a big pot of chili. Delish!

As much as I love the weekend, I'm ready to take on the work week. I hope you all have a great Monday tomorrow.

Weekends and Beginnings

Monday has come and gone (almost). Did you survive? I did, but just barely.

Yes, that is an exaggeration. I'm not one who typically complains about aches and pains but man-oh-man do I have a toothache. After a call to the dentist, near-constant Ora-gel application, Tylenol and a glass of red wine, I'm starting to feel more positive about the situation. Wednesday I'm scheduled to go in and have it checked out. I'm not a huge fan of the dentist, but at this office, they give you music, blankets, pillows and complimentary paraffin dips for your hands. My kind of place.

Other than my rogue tooth, I have no complaints. We had a fab weekend, which kicked off with a trip to Lincoln, Neb. to see my a piece of my husband's art at a charity show, where we met up with friends.

Also on Friday, Scott's parents were overnight guests, as they were on their way home from a vacation and wedding. Saturday morning we all had breakfast at IHOP.

The rest of our Saturday consisted of relaxing, some errand-running and watching a movie together.

Sunday was grocery day. We hit Red Mango first. If you haven't been there, it's truly a little piece of heaven in the form of fro-yo.

The Red Mango we frequent is next to Sur la Table, so of course, we had to stop there as well. After some Trader Joe's and Whole Foods shopping (and food sampling) we hit the hardware store and then home. I made a new recipe, polenta lasagna. Delicious. (Which I'll blog about over at Simple.Chic.Savory)

And there you have it--weekends and beginnings. Tomorrow is a full day of meetings and an early start, as my hubby travels for work. Here's to a great week.

Happy Saturday

Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you're all having a great weekend. We spent the day at a get-together at our friends' house. White wine spritzers, fried chicken, fresh fruit...it was bliss.

Enjoy Sunday Funday tomorrow.

Sweet Weekends

There isn't much sweeter to me than a weekend that's not filled with plans and to-dos. The past couple days happened to be just that--unplanned and sweet.

Friday night I tried out a new dish, chicken with leeks. I'll post a review of the recipe on Simple . Chic . Savory. I had never tried leeks before, so I can cross that experience off my list. Whew.

After we ate, we headed out to the mall for a bit of shopping and coffee. I hit up the Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual Sale and also found a new pair of snowboard boots. I was stoked, because i had ordered some and they didn't fit. And the pair I found ended up being nearly $100 cheaper! Scott and I stopped for a coffee on the way home.

Saturday morning, Scott headed to Mt. Crescent to teach snowboard lessons. I went out to grab a few groceries and mail a package for my nephew's birthday. When I got home I did some cleaning and organizing. We finished the night with pasta and homemade Bolognese and watched a movie.

Mel Gibson's face in this shot is cracking me up. No, we didn't watch a Mel movie

Today we started the day at church, came home and made breakfast and then Mr. Miller took off to the slopes again. I spent the day baking brownies, cleaning and watching television. Exciting, no?

We shared supper and took a mini trip to Target for cat food. We're not sure what's up with Dart, but we bought him a new bag of his regular cat food on Friday and he refused to eat it. It's the strangest thing. Petsmart was closed, so I got him a cheapo bag tonight and he started eating like he'd been starved. Perhaps we got a bad bag? No clue. But all is well now that he has food in his belly.

Are you ready for Monday? I am and I plan on making the most of my week. Before we know it, there will be another weekend to enjoy.
